Process Engineering Department
Process Engineering is a relatively new field in chemical engineering. This term was firstly used in one of the AIChE conferences in 1961. A conference with this title was firstly held in Tokyo in 1982. The first journal which was assigned to this field was the journal of Computers and Chemical Engineering in 1977. Also, a conference namely the European Symposium of Computer-Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE) is held in Europe since 1992.
Generally, the main goals of process engineering can be abstracted to the discovery, design, production, and distribution of new chemical products based on different objectives. In fact, process engineering covers all operations of the development of a new process including innovation, basic and detailed design, unit operations and distribution of products. The primary tool to achieve these goals includes fast computers and software programs.
One of the main aims for the creation of this field in the Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering is the training of experts for performing the above-mentioned activities in the direction of scientific and technological development of the region and the country. The development of scientific poles such as Computer-Aided Process Engineering and Process Simulation are other goals of this field.
Currently, 15 MSc. students for the process engineering field are admitted annually for education in the Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the University of Tabriz.
